Note From Our Founder
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about eMedical Media.
While developing a website for the corporate entertainment industry, I became painfully aware that when you don’t understand every element of website development, SEO (search engine optimization) and social media marketing, anyone who knows a little about it can appear to be an expert – but very few are.
My experience in the “school of hard knocks” taught me that to control the destiny and budget for my own web-based business I needed to learn every element of Internet marketing and web design – which I did. My enthusiasm for this endeavor led me to convince several local Dallas-based physicians to allow me to use my Internet marketing skills to increase their online visibility. I saw the similarities in promoting both “talent” and physicians because – like authors, speakers and entertainers – your name is your “brand.”
While working on these projects, I was surprised by the vulnerability of a physician’s reputation on the Internet – in my opinion, it is more vulnerable than any other profession. Why?
- Because you don’t have time to pay attention to it. (When we ask physicians if they have ever “Googled” themselves, most say “no.”)
- Because there are dozens of online directories and review sites with your name in them that allow people to review you with zero accountability. Many of these sites do not even require a login ID or email address to post a review.
- Because marketers claim that negative word of mouth travels ten times faster than positive word of mouth in person. Think about how this becomes exponential on the Internet where negative comments can be posted anonymously by anyone and distributed in a viral environment.
- Because, for complaints posted by legitimate patients, physicians are reluctant to defend yourselves for fear of violating doctor-patient confidentiality.
On the positive side, I saw how an optimized website and social media usage generates new patients and helps provide better “service” to existing patients for physicians who leverage these tools to increase awareness about their practices. With patients’ abilities to do a vast amount of medical research on the web, it is critical that you are aware of how to use it to benefit your practice.
Thanks to my loyal clients who became evangelists for my services, eMedical Media was born and has grown to include some amazing talent with values similar to my own.
